Hello,

I am also new here, but i did do a little digging around for some time now.

To get started do this:

1. You need some basic knowledge about a programming language C# or Basic.

For this check out this site:

www.learnvisualstudio.net

The lessons you need are: (go through them in this order)

http://www.learnvisualstudio.net/content/series/Beginning_CSharp.aspx

http://www.learnvisualstudio.net/content/series/visual_basic_2005_express_edition_for_beginners.aspx

This will get you up and running in no time. BUT YOU HAVE TO PAY :) They also might be available somewhere on the internet.

2. Start playing with Descry.

First you need Visual Studio Express Edition which you can download from here http://www.microsoft.com/express/download/#webInstall
Scroll down and choose which one you want OR scroll to the end of the page and download the whole .iso image file.

Unzip descry-15982.zip to a folder. Go into that folder. Then choose one example like "Obesity" and inside that go to either  "Obesity.web" and double click something like "Obesity.Web.csproj".
It will ask you if you want to "remove source control bindings", these is "where the site gets it's data" for example it needs to connect to some other website that HAS the actual statistical data about obesity.

Hi Basilir,

I’d actually been communicating with Suru83 offline.  I apologize for not reflecting it in the discussion. I’m not going to edit your post though, you have a right state what you feel.

But to answer the question that Suru83 ask:

- First you need to make sure you have Blend 2 installed plus the Blend 2 SP1 service pack.  Blend has a trial version that I believe Blend is good for 60 days at no cost. You can download it and the service pack off the http://www.microsoft.com/downloads site. Search for Blend 2.

- Once it is installed you can right click on the .sln solution file and open it with Blend.

- Once the project is opened right-click on one of the *.web projects (let’s say AWND.Web) in the project window that you want to run and choose “Startup Project” from the menu to set it as the startup project.

- Expand the AWND.Web project and right-click on index.html to set it as the startup file. This will ensure that that specific index file will be launched when the entire solution is run.

- Once this is done you can choose “Test Solution” from the main project menu at the top of the application, or press F5 to build and run it.

- You should see a browser launch and the application appear in the browser.

- There are 5 individual projects that can be run in this solution

   - The “A Web Site Named Desire” app

   - The “In their first words” app.

   - The “Obesity” app.

   - The “Social Timeline” app.

   - And as of yesterday the simple TreeMap sample app.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks,

-Hans
